Commitment 

Tourism Australia is committed to ensuring that its online information and experiences are accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, technology or platforms.

Accessibility standards

Our websites conform to Level AA where possible, of the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1).

We also aim to meet the Digital Transformation Agency's requirements for Australian Government websites and the requirements of the European Accessibility Act 2025.

Limitations and alternatives

While accessibility is a priority for Tourism Australia, we cannot control the accessibility of content outside of our domain – including linked websites or content. We recognise that some of our content is not as accessible as it could be. Meeting accessibility guidelines is an ongoing process, and we are consistently optimising for the best digital experience.

Despite our best efforts to ensure our digital content meets WCAG 2.1, there may be some limitations. Please contact us if you observe an issue. Below is a list of known limitations that we are regularly reviewing:

• Third party plug ins – Embedded third-party content is subject to external business guidelines, which can impose technical limitations. We conduct regular reviews to enhance our content and technical infrastructure, aiming to minimise reliance on third-party plugins and mitigate their constraints. 
• Visual design - Reviews are done regularly to see how we can improve to make our digital platform layouts and content more accessible to our audience.
• Navigation - On certain pages, assistive technologies can render/read out certain attributes twice as the attributes are the same for title and decorative icons. We are regularly auditing our website attributes to be unique to remove the duplication.
• Time-based media - Many videos across Tourism Australia websites currently do not have an accessible alternative. Either the video captions or descriptions are missing for the video content. We are investigating and implementing video related guidelines across our online content. Any new videos added to the website will now require accessible alternatives to be available.
• Assets - We are regularly updating outdated documents and assets used across the website. We convert documents to new formats upon request within five business days.
