Bruny Island, located off the coast of Hobart, is a popular holiday spot for beach goers and food-lovers. It is also home to wild and dramatic landscapes that are waiting to be explored. Explore on a day trip, overnight or stay for a week and explore the various walking trails, beaches and indulgent food sourced from or made right on the island.

There’s no bridge connecting Bruny Island to Tasmania’s mainland, so you’ll need to catch a vehicle ferry. Drive 33km (21mi) from Hobart to the ferry terminal in Kettering before enjoying the 20-minute ferry ride.

Alternatively, join a guided tour in Hobart, which will arrange your transportation to Bruny Island and return you to your accommodation in Hobart.

There is no public transport on the island, so the only options for transport are by car or on a guided tour. If you hire a car in Hobart, be sure to let your chosen company know you plan to travel to Bruny Island, as policies can vary between hire companies.

The best time to visit Bruny Island is during the summer when the weather is warmer and the chance to see the local little penguins is better. This is also the region’s busiest season, so be sure to book any accommodation or experiences in advance.
