Sydney’s best markets

Get your fill of seasonal produce, vintage fashion and handmade arts and crafts at nine of Sydney's best markets. 

Where: 245 Wilson Street, Eveleigh
When: Saturday, 8am - 1pm

Housed within the arts precinct of Carriageworks, this market features more than 70 regular stallholders, and is curated by renowned Australian chef Mike McEnearney. Each Saturday the hangar-like space is transformed into a foodie's playground, selling everything from classic pastries and artisan breads to organic macadamias, Blue Mountains truffles and Mudgee wines. Don't leave without trying the steamed pork buns from celebrity chef Kylie Kwong – trust us, the queue is worth the wait. Carriageworks is less than a 10-minute walk from Redfern Station.

Kirribilli Art, Design and Fashion Market

Where: Alfred Street South, Milsons Point 
When: second Sunday of each month, 8:30am - 3pm  

Each month Sydney's fashion hunters head across the Harbour Bridge to the Kirribilli Art, Design and Fashion Market. The market is divided into two sections: the Art & Design Market, in the Burton Street Tunnel, and the Fashion Market in the adjoining Bradfield Park. Browse through ceramics, homewares and threads from emerging local fashion designers, before grabbing lunch from one of the many food stalls. There's also live entertainment all day. Reach the market by train to Milsons Point station or ferry to Milsons Point wharf.

Bondi Farmers Markets

Where: Bondi Beach Public School, Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach
When: Saturday, 10am - 4pm  

Join the locals for a post-swim breakfast at the Bondi Farmers Markets. Each Saturday hundreds of people sprawl out on the grass, plates piled high with corn fritters, pillow-soft steamed buns or cheese toasties. There's also plenty to keep you hydrated, such as young coconut, green juices or freshly brewed iced chai. If you're visiting during the cooler months, don’t miss a hearty bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup from Bar Pho, which has become a market institution. Express buses to Bondi take 30 minutes from the city centre.

The Rocks Markets

Where: Playfair Street, George Street and Jack Mundey Place, The Rocks
When: Friday, 10am - 3pm; Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 5pm  

On The Rocks’ cobbled laneways, these markets are the place to go for uniquely Australian gifts or one-of-a-kind souvenirs. Stalls include fine art prints of Australian wildlife, eco-friendly kids clothing and rare jewellery created from gold-dipped Australian leaves. While you're visiting The Rocks, drop in to the Ken Done Gallery, which houses the most extensive collection of celebrated Australian artist Ken Done's works, including signed limited edition prints. The Rocks Markets are a 10-minute walk from Circular Quay.

Glebe Markets

Where: Glebe Public School, 9-25 Derwent St, Glebe
When: Saturday, 10am - 4pm

On the edge of the city centre you'll find the vibrant village of Glebe, which many artists, students and entrepreneurs call home. Its weekly market reflects its character and diversity and is a great place to find recycled fashion, handmade jewellery and homewares. There's a handful of food stalls selling everything from Turkish pide to vegan cupcakes, and local musicians to serenade market goers as they relax on the lawn. Glebe Markets are a short walk or bus ride from Central Station.

Rozelle Collectors Market

Where: Rozelle Public School, 663 Darling Street, Rozelle
When: Saturday 9am-3pm  

The inner west suburb of Rozelle is home to one of Sydney's best flea markets. Crates of bric-a-brac, pre-loved fashion and authentic antiques fill the grounds of Rozelle Public School and attract bargain hunters each weekend. It's a treasure trove of jewellery, vinyl records, furniture and books, so you're guaranteed to pick up a gem. Rozelle Collectors Market is a 20-minute bus ride from Sydney's city centre.

Kings Cross Market

Where: Fitzroy Gardens, Macleay Street, Kings Cross
When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-2pm

Beloved by locals, the Kings Cross Market pops up each Saturday in Fitzroy Gardens, and despite its relatively small size, attracts a large crowd. Stalls include freshly cut flowers, certified organic produce and a large variety of gluten-free pastries, pies and cakes. After you've visited the markets, wander down MacLeay Street past fashion boutiques, bookshops and cafés. The market is a five minute walk from Kings Cross Station.

Paddington Markets

Where: 395 Oxford Street, Paddington 
When: Saturday, 10am - 4pm  

The birthplace of Australian fashion empire Zimmermann, Paddington Markets continue to support budding designers across 150 stalls. Expect a mix of jewellery, homewares, art and fashion – much of which is sold exclusively at Paddington Markets – as well as an al fresco food court selling a delicious variety of international cuisine. This is a great spot to pick up an authentic, locally designed gift. Paddington Markets are a 15-minute bus ride from the city centre.

Marrickville Market

Where: 142 Addison Road, Marrickville 
When: Sunday, 10am - 3pm

Every Sunday, health conscious Sydneysiders make the pilgrimage to Marrickville Market to do their weekly grocery shopping. Organic, seasonal produce takes centre stage, but there are also countless snack stalls offering cold-pressed juices, salad bowls and guilt-free treats. Grab a spot on the grass – with its buzzy, community atmosphere you could easily stay here all day. Don't leave without picking up a deliciously decadent brownie from Birgitta's Kitchen for later. Marrickville Market is a 30-minute bus ride from Sydney's city centre.
