Guide to the Eyre Peninsula
Swap the crowds for pristine landscapes, rich wildlife and great seafood on the Eyre Peninsula.
The Eyre Peninsula is Australia's major seafood hub. More than 65 per cent of the nation's seafood comes from these waters, including green-lipped abalone, scallops, prawns, oysters and tuna, which you can enjoy at the region's many seafood restaurants. It's also a place of extreme natural beauty, with a multitude of landscapes and outdoor adventure on offer. Swim with dolphins and sea lions, cage dive with great white sharks or take an intimate whale watching tour.
Things to do on the Eyre Peninsula
Swim with sea lions and more
Wildlife experiences in the Eyre Peninsula are epic. You can swim with playful sea lions, energetic dolphins and even giant, colour-changing cuttlefish. You’ll get up close to all of these incredible animals on a swimming safari.
Discover coastal caves
Dotted along the coastline you’ll find caverns, tunnels, cliffs, crevices and blowholes. Visit Talia Caves to admire the craggy formations carved by waves, explore the nearby beach or venture deeper into a crater.
Taste the freshest seafood
The Eyre Peninsula is renowned for its seafood. Along the Seafood Frontier, you’ll enjoy oysters straight from the sea, fresh fish with ocean views and incredible marine experiences. Check out the itinerary for a tasty road trip.
Safari through the outback
There’s plenty of outback to be explored in the region. Take a wilderness safari to the Gawler Ranges to marvel at red rock formations, a white salt lake and abundant wildlife. Add on a few nights’ stay in a beautiful bush camp.
Cage dive with great white sharks
The Neptune Islands, located just south of the Eyre Peninsula, are the only place in Australia where you can cage dive with great white sharks. Come face-to-face with these incredible ocean predators in an experience you’ll never forget.
Go whale watching
Each year, whales venture close to the shores to birth and rear their youth. On a whale watching tour you can experience the magical moment a whale comes to the surface to breach, spyhop or slap its tail.
Cross the iconic Nullarbor Plain
If you’re up for an adventure across the wide-open outback, then it’s time to cross the Nullarbor. Along the way you’ll find breathtaking coastal cliffs, sweeping sand dunes and even the world’s longest golf course. Find the itinerary here.
Discover beautiful beaches and bays
With an endless coastline, there are plenty of empty beaches in the Eyre Peninsula, though you may need to share the sand with friendly kangaroos. From epic surf waves to seaside picnics, you’ll find a beach to suit. Here are a few of the best.
Stay at an exclusive eco retreat
Nestled within the bush near Port Lincoln is Tanonga, a luxury eco retreat that offers the ultimate nature getaway. Outside of your sun-drenched lodge you’ll find walking trails, native wildlife and stunning views of the sea and sky.
